Cultivating Collaborative Doers

Binata Mukherjee

Katy, Texas, USA

Binata's personal commitment to be of service to others led her to study medicine. In the early days of her medical career in India, she realized that it was not always the lack of resources which created healthcare gaps but that a lack of accessibility for many to available resources posed bigger problems.

Binata has a vast experience in the pharmaceutical industry having worked in clinical affairs, regulatory and marketing, both local and international, mainly with Sanofi- Aventis in India and in Singapore. While her business travels from Amsterdam to Cairo, from Bosphorus Straits to the Gulf of Mexico allowed her to enrich her palette for different cultures across all five continents, she has come to believe that in healthcare delivery collaboration among hospitals, drug manufacturers, insurance companies and nonprofit organizations for better fund raising and certainly more efficient resource utilization would go a long way in benefitting people's health. She aspires to make a difference to the lives of people since she firmly believes that good health is a basic necessity of life.

In September 2010, while browsing through websites for recent innovations in life sciences, she chanced upon CARTHA and felt compelled to connect with Usha Balakrishnan primarily because of the organization's motive to address inequities in health. After a long 2-hour chat on the phone she decided to accept Usha's invitation to embrace the CARTHA family by joining as a CARTHA Council of Advisor. Binata believes that she can put to good use her medical and business education (she has recently obtained an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business) and pharmaceutical experience in advancing global good through CARTHA.
