Omaima Mohamed Hamdy

Dr. Omaima Hamdy is a Professor in the department of Education and Training, Faculty of Nursing, University of Alexandria. She started her career as a lecturer in 1966 and became associate professor in 1981 and was promoted to the position of professor in 1986. Omaima was awarded a Scholarship from the Egyptian Government to obtain her Masters degree in Nursing Service Administration from the USA, which she received from Boston University in 1965. She was selected by Boston University to be among the team of educators who participated in the US Federal Training Project for the Underprivileged Youth in Tallahassee University, Florida (Summer 1965). Omaima received her Doctorate degree from the High Institute of Public Health, Alexandria University in 1975 in the field of Health Administration. During her career, she has supervised several Doctorate and Masters Theses and was a member of Hearing Committees and Qualifying examinations for Doctorate and Masters Students.
In 1978 Omaima was seconded to the Kaduna Polytechnic, Ahmadu Bello University, Kaduna, Nigeria, to work as a Senior Lecturer where she helped establish a Nursing Education Unit for the preparation of Nurse Teachers. Omaima was appointed by the University of Alexandria, as the Principal Investigator and Project Director for the project “Training of Ministry of Health Personnel in MCH & FP” which was sponsored by the US Agency for International Development from 1982 to 1987. She directed and managed the Design and Implementation of 18 Workshops (400 participants) in seven Governorates and the development of three training manuals.
Omaima was the first Woman Professor to be appointed at the Institute of Public Administration, Riyadh Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from 1989–1995. During such period she designed and implemented various training programs and produced several training manuals and modules. She was among the members of the path-breaking Mobile Team composed of women educators who flew to train women public officers in the Eastern and Western regions of the Saudi Kingdom. Since 1975, Omaima has produced several publications (manuals, curricular modules, books, self-instruction modules, scientific papers, conference/seminar papers, consultation reports, etc.). Omaima worked also as a Consultant to various international and national organizations including: USAID/Cairo, IPPF (UK), Pathfinders, INTRAH (USA), RONCO (USA), CEDPA, IDT (USA), SPAAC, ITRFP, NPC, MOH/Egypt and WHO, Policy Projects (USA). The fields of major consultations included: Development and Implementation of training programs in Advocacy and Networking to Empower Grass Roots Egyptian Women, Training of Trainers, Education Material Development, Islam and Reproductive Health for International Participants, Development of Curricula for Training Projects, Gender Training, Advocacy Education Material development, development of Training of Trainers Manuals, Management of Health Units, Lead Consultant for Youth Leadership Project, Lead consultant for Youth Sensitization Project, The Operational Management of Development Projects.
Omaima is a member of eight professional organizations and six voluntary non-governmental organizations among which is Rotary. She is Past President of Rotary Club of Alexandria Pharos.
